South Korean tech giant Samsung has trademarked names that would suggest its next flagship phone will include iris recognition. The firm has reserved the names “Samsung Iris” and “Samsung Eyeprint” with the European Union Intellectual Property Office for trademark protection. The Dutch blog Galaxy Club noted the trademark news in a post.Last year, the OEM filed a patent related to iris recognoition on smartphones. In that method, Samsung said it will be using NIR (Near infrared rays) to recognize the unique pattern of blood vessels in eyes. This matches up with a prototype revealed by Fujitsu and Arrows, Japan's largest mobile phone operator, last May.Similarly, Microsoft included an iris scanner on the Lumia 950 and 950 XL, released in October.
