Global messaging firm Snapchat has purchased a startup working on 3D face scanning tech that doesn't require special depth-sensing cameras, according to reports in tech media.Snapchat has bought 3D face-scanning app Seene for an undisclosed amount, sources have told TechCrunch.Snapchat actually bought the company “a couple of months ago” for a relatively low price, and is bringing Seene employees to its headquarters in Los Angeles, adds the magazine.Speculation is now growing that the Snapchat plans to use the technology to offer 3D selfies, stronger face recognition or instant life-like avatars.
