Officials in Pittsburgh have completed a seven-month study on a municipal ID card that is hoped to help connect marginalized people to services.Called a "Bridge ID", it is envisioned that the card should be as secure as a driver's license; have third-party integration that would allow for other organization such as museums or libraries to use the card like a membership card."The inability to acquire a valid form of identification holds a portion of our city's residents back from doing things like gaining employment, opening a bank account, accessing social services, or renting an apartment," the document noted. The study examined municipal ID programs in New York City; Oakland, Calif.; San Francisco; Washington, D.C.; and New Haven, Conn. The city envisions the need for ID checking services including biometrics, likely face recognition."ID issuance software will be needed. Examples of software vendors include: MorphoTrust Image Server, and Entrust DataCard Secura. ߪ The second service we recommend is a biometric check on the photo taken during the appointment. Vendor examples: Face First and MorphoTrust Face Examiner Workstation".
