Over 300 devices have been verified through the SIA OSDP Verified initiative. The Security Industry Association sets a protocol standard for access control communications to improve interoperability and support advanced functionalities and encryption for security.
The modern protocol that could support bidirectional communication between readers and controllers. It is designed to improve interoperability, cybersecurity and device management while providing a more capable alternative to the legacy Wiegand interface.
Since the SIA took ownership of the OSDP in 2012, the protocol has been further developed and standardised to encourage broader industry participation. An additional working group has also been set up to provision the OSDP Version 2 and expand capabilities such as Secure Channel encryption, smart-card communications and biometric reader support.
“Since its launch in April 2020, the SIA OSDP Verified program has tested and validated 222 products from 32 companies and brands – substantial progress in six years, highlighting the market need and the program’s success,” said Cameron Walker-Miller, director of standards and technology at SIA. “The programme now has representation in nine countries across North America, Europe, Asia and the Middle East, and we’re seeing growing enthusiasm across domestic and international participation.”
As of July 2026, 46 access control units and 9 peripheral devices have been recognized as OSDP Verified.

Advancements in hardware encryption, document security, and physical access standards will feature prominently throughout the Secure Credentials and Physical Identity tracks at Identity Week America 2026 (September 2–3, 2026).
