Anti-counterfeiting and secure document solutions firm Opalux has developed OpalPrint Polycarbonate, an embedded polycarbonate feature that provides high-resolution, colour-shifting portraits inside polycarbonate identification documents.Based on Opalux's tunable photonic crystal technology, OpalPrint Polycarbonate adds personalized colour-shifting portraits to polycarbonate identification documents. In a statement, the firm noted that the combination of a high-resolution portrait with an easily verified colour-shift renders counterfeiting virtually impossible.Opalux has designed OpalPrint Polycarbonate specifically for polycarbonate identification documents. It can be integrated into polycarbonate documents using industry standard polycarbonate lamination techniques.Importantly, OpalPrint polycarbonate is laser personalised after polycarbonate integration. As a result, OpalPrint Polycarbonate is compatible with decentralized issuance systems from both a process and equipment cost perspective. A video showing the personalization of an OpalPrint Polycarbonate security feature can be viewed here.According to Andrew Binkley, Opalux's CEO "In addition to enabling high-resolution, colour-shifting portraits that are compatible with decentralized polycarbonate document issuance systems, OpalPrint Polycarbonate can be customized to particular customers' needs." For example, Opalux can offer OpalPrint Polycarbonate in different colour-ranges, including UV and IR. Thanks to its transparency and thin form factor, OpalPrint Polycarbonate can also be layered on top of other information and security features.Building on its expertise manufacturing tunable photonic crystals for high security printing, Opalux has the capability to produce OpalPrint Polycarbonate at commercial scales. OpalPrint Polycarbonate is protected by several Opalux patents.
