Northern Ireland is introducing driving licence reforms for the first time in 70 years which will affect younger drivers.
The rules, to be introduced in October, will adapt the laws imposed in countries including Australia, the US, and the Republic of Ireland, holding learner drivers back from taking a practical test for 6 months after getting their provisional licence.
Younger drivers are statistically more likely to be involved in road collisions, and will now wait a bit longer until they can drive on the roads with everyone else.
This age group of drivers account for 24% of fatal or serious collisions.
For the first 6 months after passing their test, drivers up to the age of 24 are only allowed to have one passenger between 14 and 20 in their car during the early hours.
