A biometric tablet developed by Morpho (Safran) that features fingerprint and face authentication has added support for the ScanMyTWIC and PINchanger applications developed by Generic Smart Cards from the TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) program, a Transportation Security Administration and U.S. Coast Guard initiative in the United States.TWIC provides a tamper-resistant biometric credential to maritime workers requiring unescorted access to secure areas of port facilities, outer continental shelf facilities, and vessels regulated under the Maritime Transportation Security Act (MTSA) of 2002.ScanMyTWIC is a card holder diagnostic that performs a comprehensive scan of a TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) or PIV (Personal Identity Verification) card using either the contactless card interface via NFC or a contact reader. The contact reader is preferred due to the fact that much richer information is available over the contact interface. A Personal Identification Number (PIN) used in conjunction with the contact interface provides access to the facial image and any printed information.Detailed information is displayed and can also be emailed. ScanMyTWIC supports the TWIC Canceled Card List (CCL) that determines whether a TWIC card is still trusted by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).PINchanger is a utility application that permits TWIC or PIV card holders to change their PIN value, assuming they know their current PIN.Generic Smart Cards has developed this Android application for situations in which it may be necessary for TWIC card holders to change an existing PIN. Applicants can now request TWIC cards to be directly mailed to the transportation worker with a pre-assigned PIN value that has not been selected by the end-user.
