The government of Mauritius has invited from eligible and qualified local/international bidders for a consultancy for the implementation of e-Passport.The Mauritius Passports in the current format were first rolled out in 2005 when the Passport Personalization System was implemented. The Mauritius Passports are machine readable and conform to the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) Doc 9303 specifications for Machine Readable Travel Documents. The Government of Mauritius wants to move to the next generation of electronic passports (e-Passports), which will offer enhanced security features to prevent fraud and tampering. The e-Passport with its microchip will be storing the personal information of the bearer and may also store biometric information of the bearer such as facial, iris, or fingerprints information. The biometric information in the chip of the e-Passport will allow the identity of the bearer to be verified and will thus bind conclusively a bearer with his/her passport. The Government of Mauritius wishes to hire the services of a Consultant to design and develop the specifications of the e-Passport as well as its associated systems and processes.
