Digital identity body the Kantara Initiative, which was formerly a program of IEEE Industry Standards and Technology Organization (IEEE-ISTO), has become an autonomous entity. In a statement, the Kantara Initiative leadership said it had decided to take this step to become an independent corporation because of the size and activity levels the organization has reached, the industry recognition it has attained, and its need to have more operational flexibility. Its programs and activities will continue to operate as before, under the new framework."Our mission is unchanged — to take the lead in creating the strategic vision and real-world innovation for the digital identity transformation currently underway across the globe. This transformation is being driven by the intersection of identity, the Internet of Things, and usability. The results of this intersection are more innovations, improved privacy, and better security for online transactions for companies and governments," said Allan Foster, President, Board of Directors, Kantara Initiative, Inc. "This new autonomy signifies that our organization has achieved the strength, resources, and momentum to stand on its own, and we will continue to grow and evolve."As a result of the new status, the Board of Trustees is now known as the Board of Directors. Updated corporate bylaws are now posted on the Kantara Initiative website. Additionally, the organization is now supported by Virtual, Inc., an association management company with a technology focus, whose clients include a number of organizations in related areas.
