India's Ministry of External Affairs is seeking new bids for its passport issuance programme, according to local media.Officials told the Economic Times last week that the ministry wants proposals for a 10-year tender, as an agreement with Tata Consultancy Services only runs until 2020. "The total transition is expected to take place in a period not less than 6 months. Hence, it is expected that a winning bidder shall take over by early 2020 and subsequently carry out their transition process in a smooth manner," the document said.A source close to the Ministry of External Affairs told the newspaper that Tata could re-bid for the project and that the project is open for other bidders as well. "This is an expression of interest. There is a meeting for interested bidders on Friday where they can come and clear their doubts. Then a formal 'request for proposal' will be issued. The terms of the new contract will be finalised then," the official said.
