Marquis ID Systems (MIDS), a Gemalto Company, announces the inclusion of Sealys Color in polycarbonate technology to the company's line of driver license (DL) solutions. In a company statement, Gemalto revealed that this is the first ever laser printing solution for an unalterable, high-definition, color image combined with the high security and exceptional durability of polycarbonate.Color in polycarbonate couples the advanced document security with the detail and richness of color imagery, and is an ideal solution for jurisdictions where a color photo is required for all driver licenses. To help reduce document forgery, the additional layer of security is based on laser engraving techniques that embed the individual's information into the card body of the driver license during the personalization process. In the US, the driver license is one of the most prevalent forms of ID with over 211 million in circulation according to the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). Currently, local governments are faced with the dual challenge of strengthening the integrity of the driver license as well as issuing an increasing number of this form of identity as the U.S. driving population grows. MIDS technologies, such as the color in polycarbonate or document verification tools, can help enhance the security of a driver license, protect the identity of citizens and create a more automated thus efficient issuance system.
