Gambia's election commission has confirmed that the development of a biometric voters' registration process will cost the government 33 million dalasi (US$833,000).The Chairman of the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC), Alhaji Mustapha Carayol, confirmed the amount at an official event this week. The IEC Chairman said the biometric voter registration going on in the country is very complex, saying they did the same in 2011 and his institution was applauded by other countries within the sub-region and even beyond.Last December, voter registration specialist and BVR pioneer Electoral Services International, ESI revealed that it had signed an agreement with the Electoral Commission of Gambia that will see ESI work closely with its Gambian partners to update their voters' roll.Earlier this week, the IEC complained the turnout of applicants for the Supplementary Voter Card has been very low since the start of the process on January 14.
