The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles announced this week that they will be issuing a new and "more secure" Florida driver license and ID card in August. The new cards will have a completely different look from the current driver license and ID card, which was last updated in 2003. To provide the "latest technology to safeguard personal information" and give Floridians "the most secure over-the-counter credential on the market today," FDOT states on their website.Double-fraud protection measures will now be printed on the cards, such as "redundant data, ultraviolet ink and optically variable features," according to FDOT.New features on the cards will include a pastel-colored sketch of the state seal and a large orange "FL" over a white background. The back of the card will display the year 1845–the year Florida became a state.
