Indianapolis-based First Internet Bank has added eye-vein biometric logins to its mobile app, with EyeVerify supplying the technology. The biometrics firm's Eyeprint ID technology captures an image of the eye and matches the unique vein pattern to verify identity.”Eyeprint ID is the latest demonstration of First Internet Bank's commitment to customer-centric digital banking,” David Becker, president and CEO of First Internet Bank, said in a company release.. “Eyeprint ID comes quickly after our introduction of Touch ID authentication earlier this year, which enables customers to log in with a fingerprint. Biometric technology allows us to provide innovative solutions to our customers' need for secure, convenient account access.”In July, Utah-based Mountain America Credit Union revealed that it has signed up some 10,000 users for its deployment of a login system using Eyeprint ID technology.EyeVerify works by using an individual's unique eyeprint. The eyeprint is the map of blood vessels in the whites of the eyes, which is unique to each person. Each person has two eyeprints in each eye. The initial enrollment process takes less than a minute, and will capture the eyeprint on a smartphone or tablet camera. After that, logging in using Eyeprint ID simply involves looking into the front-facing camera. On June 25, MACU has become the first US credit union to offer dual biometric logins for its mobile banking app, with fingerprint and eye-vein authentication both on offer.
