Swedish sensor maker Fingerprint Cards has hit the ground running in the first week of 2015, announcing the launch of two new touch fingerprint sensors and plans to collaborate with China-based electronic firm O-Film.The company revealed on 5 January that it was launching the new FPC1140 and FPC1145 fingerprint sensors, saying that they were the smallest touch fingerprint sensors made by FPC to date.”FPC1140 and FPC1145 provide state of the art biometric performance while reducing size and increasing industrial design options”, said the company.Just a day later, FPC reported that it was entering a partnership on touch fingerprint sensors with O-Film that would improve its access to the lucrative Chinese market.Last month, Planet Biometrics reported that Chinese touchscreen manufacturer O-film planned to begin producing fingerprint recognition modules due to intensifying competition for touch panels. While FPC will providing its touch fingerprint sensor technology in the partnership, O-Film will develop, manufacturing and selling fingerprint sensor modules to OEMs.A first market launch with O-Film modules will uses the FPC1025 sensor and is expected in Q2 2015, said the Swedish firm. But initial revenues will be generated for FPC during Q1 2015.”The main target for the partnership is taking advantage of the high-growth Chinese market, where adoption of fingerprint sensors is now accelerating amongst leading OEMs”, said FPC.”Mobile payment solutions are now being deployed using fingerprint sensors to enable secure and convenient payments and both parties have global ambitions for their collaboration.”Jörgen Lantto, acting president and chief executive officer of FPC, said:”FPC's world leading technology in touch fingerprint sensors, used by companies such as Huawei and Oppo, combined with O-Film's strong track record in touch panel and camera (TP/CCM) modules will be a powerful combination in China and Globally. We are looking forward to working together with O-Film to accelerate adoption of fingerprint sensors. “
