Vancouver-based Face Forensics has announced a unique new capability – the capacity to identify the faces of dead bodies, i.e. with eyes that are closed, and including where the face is significantly damaged. Closed eyes are an issue because face recognition systems place high value on the area around the eyes due to the clear edges and high contrast of the features there. When these are not visible recognition performance can be severely degraded or simply not work at all. Called Corpse-ID, the new module incudes Face Forensics' unique partial face recognition capability which allows an image of an undamaged part of a face, for example one side or just the eyes, to be matched against the same area in a database of previously enrolled faces.Corpse-ID adds another unique capability to Face Forensics' f2 Image Recognition Suite, which includes full and partial face, tattoo, and scene recognition.
