The EU4Digital cross-border electronic ID pilot links Armenia, Georgia, and Moldova citizens to digital services in other countries using their national digital IDs, as reported by BiometricUpdate.com.

The pilot utilised the eIDAS-node software, a tool used by EU Member States for cross-border authentication. This aligns with the updated the European Digital Identity Framework regulation aimed at facilitating digital transactions across the EU.

Successful tests were conducted between Armenia and Georgia, Armenia and Moldova, and Georgia and Moldova.

In January 2023, EU4Digital launched the second part of the pilot to establish recognised digital identities and interoperable trust services across the Eastern Partnership and EKENG.
