The European Commission has issued a call for independent experts to join a new Technical Work Sub-Group focused on the development of the European Business Wallet, a key component of the EU’s expanding digital infrastructure.

The sub-group will help define the technical architecture of the EBW, an initiative designed to enable businesses to operate more efficiently across the EU’s digital single market. The Commission said the group’s work will support the creation of a system that is secure, interoperable, and scalable.

Among its main responsibilities, the Technical Work Sub-Group will assess secure and legally robust communication protocols and delivery channels. It will also contribute to the design of core security features, including authentication systems and access controls, as well as the development of shared services that enhance trust and interoperability, such as the European Digital Directory.

The initiative will build on the existing foundations of the European digital identity ecosystem while addressing the specific operational needs of businesses using the wallet.

The Commission is seeking professionals with expertise in fields including secure electronic messaging, identity and access management, encryption, interoperability frameworks, and large-scale system architecture.

Applications are open until 21 May 2026.
