Taiwanese fingerprint sensor maker Elan has won an order from a notebook manufacturer.Volume shipments are set to kick off in the second half of 2016, according to the company, reports DigiTimes.Elan fFingerprint sensor products have been adopted by branded smartphone vendors based in regions including northeast Asia, China, Taiwan and India, the company added, with shipments kicking off since the first quarter, the company said. Orders from the notebook industry indicate Elan's fingerprint sensor business expansion.The company started shipping fingerprint sensor chips to smartphone clients in the first quarter of 2016 followed by shipments for tablets in the second quarter, the company disclosed, added the newspaper.In addition, Elan will start to send samples of fingerprint sensor solutions for smart card applications in the third quarter, and expects to enter volume shipments for clients as early as the fourth quarter, the company indicated.Elan expects its fingerprint sensor shipments to double to two million units in the third quarter of 2016 from the prior quarter's level. Shipments will continue to grow and likely exceed three million units in the fourth quarter, the company said.
