Reports of identity fraud have surfaced in Bangladesh as part of a SIM card registration process, although it is supposed to be securely managed with biometrics.The telecom regulator plans to encourage all subscribers to go the customer care centres and find out for themselves whether their NID number has been used to register other unauthorised SIMs, reports the Dhaka Tribune.In late June, police arrested 22 people for their suspected involvement with fake SIM card registration in the capital.Of the 130 million crore active connections in Bangladesh, 11.5 million have been re-registered, but 4-5 million of these were done with forged biometric details, senior executives of different mobile operators told the Daily Star.Tauhidul Alam Nahid, a senior executive of the Crystal Group, a pioneering event management company in the capital, found eight SIMs has been registered under his name with Robi and three more with Airtel.
