East Asian fingerprint sensor firms are ramping up production in anticipation of increased demand from Chinese smartphone vendors, reports regional media.Over the next three years, fingerprint sensor tech is expected to have a CAGR of 80% driven largely by demand from China vendors, industry insiders told Taiwan's DigiTimes.Chinese firm O-Film, which is working in conjunction with California's Synaptics, plans to begin production of fingerprint recognition modules at four million units in the second quarter of 2015 and more in the second half of the year.Pricing is set to be a crucial factor, with local vendors pushing low-priced solutions in order to maintain market share, and fingerprint sensors likely to fall below US$5 in 2015, according to recent statements from industry sources.
