ZTE has launched its flagship Axon phone for the Chinese market with a trio of biometric technologies on offer for consumers to choose from. The global mobile device maker said the Axon phone for China comes with the same premium design as the version recently launched in the USA, but includes a number of additional features for the Chinese market. For example, the phone is claimed to be the world's first smartphone that can be unlocked with three different biometric authentication options: fingerprint, voice control and eye-scan (eye-vein recognition), making it one of the most secure smartphones available on the market, the company says. In addition to unlocking the device, the Axon phone's fingerprint scanner also offers support for NFC payments.Earlier this year, ZTE announced it had added an eye-vein recognition solution (EyeVerify) to its latest flagship handset, the ZTE Grand S3. The eye-vein recognition tech verifies unique vein patterns in the human eye by using the phone's front facing camera.Eye-vein authentication doesn't need the infra-red scanners required for iris scans, which typically do not feature on mobile phones.Last November, EyeVerify launched a new version of its eye-vein software solution which reduced authentication time for smart devices to just 800 milliseconds.
