Canada's Alberta province is planning a consultation on a single, smarter identity card that would consolidate healthcare and driver's license information.Calli Stromner, a spokesperson for Service Alberta, said the intention was to simplify the identification process for government and citizens."Instead of fishing around for your Alberta Health Care card, you could just present your single government issued ID," she told Metro."It has been one of those things that has been on their business plan for a number of years. Other jurisductions have gone the way of a blended card."British Columbia started a transition to a one-card system in 2013 and has given residents until 2018 to replace their existing cards. British Columbia is one of four Canadian provinces which have implemented so-called "enhanced drivers licences", which feature vicinity Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) chip, as well as a Machine Readable Zone and biometric data storage.
