Cambodia's electoral commission has revealed plans to pilot voter registration using biometrics in certain provinces.Technicians will use voters' thumbprints, ID cards, and names to register them in the NEC's database, reported the Khmer Times.The National Election Committee wrote in a statement that about 32,500 people will be unofficially registered during the two-week pilot.A combination of rural and urban communes have been chosen so that the results are representative. One commune will be selected from each of the 24 provinces and one from the capital, Phnom Penh.Previous votes in Cambodia have been marred by allegations of vote-buying and fraud from indepdenent election observers.
