The Samsung Wallet is a secure option for Californian residents to add their driver’s license. 

With our digital lives also shifting how we wish to verify our identities using technology we rely on and trust, states including Arizona and Iowa have embedded their state-issued credentials into the wallet as well. 

Samsung have delivered on security principles whilst adoption of the wallet has climbed, releasing software for developers to integrate online age and ID information to help reduce fraud and friction in their applications.

Above all, Samsung is embracing mobile drivers’ licences as the next pillar of digital identity, enabling residents to navigate their daily lives. 

“This expanded pilot reflects our commitment to meeting Californians where they are with secure, convenient tools that protect privacy and modernise how government serves them”, said Governor Gavin Newsom, California Department of Motor Vehicles.

The announcement is part of the expansion of California’s mobile Driver’s License (mDL) pilot, which has more than 1.7 million active mDLs used at TSA touchpoints, for access to government services, the MyDMV portal, convenience stores. 

“We’re excited to offer more Californians the opportunity to carry their driver’s license on their phones. It’s not just handy, it’s safer too,” said DMV Director Steve Gordon.

Google Wallet also now supports Aadhaar Verifiable Credentials in India, expanding on the convenience of digital IDs. People in Singapore, Taiwan, and Brazil are able to create an ID pass  based on their passport information and save it in their Google Wallet.
