The State Department has said that its visa system will not be restored until next week after the service was hit by a hardware failure preventing it from processing and transmitting mandatory security-related biometric data checks.”This is a global issue and we're working around the clock to fix it,” said John Kirby, the State Department spokesman.”We don't expect that the system will be online before next week. I can't give you any more specific detail with respect to timing on that.”He added that more than 100 computer experts from both the private and public sectors across the US are working on the issue.”That failure right now is preventing the Department from processing and transmitting the mandatory security-related biometric data checks at our embassies and consulates,” Mr Kirby said.”Certainly we regret this inconvenience to travellers, recognize that this is causing hardship for those that are waiting for visas, and in some cases their family members or employers in the United States,” he said.
