The Digital Transformation Office (DTO) in Australia has confirmed that the country will go live with the first phase of a digital identity programme by next August.The national opt-in digital identity credential will be useable for government services.Rachel Dixon, the head of identity at the DTO, confirmed the plans this week, as was reported by Government News.Dixon told the magazine it was part of create a new user friendly, multi-agency to provide secure and easy online access to government services and transactions for consumers.Currently the existing myGov online access facility is the subject of a formal audit from the Australian National Audit Office (ANAO) to determine its effectiveness.The authority is developing a program it hopes will establish a whole-of-government approach to verifying identity across all the online transaction services offered by Australian agencies.
