Biometrics-backed mobile payment service Apple Pay has launched in Ireland. The launch of the fingerprint payment service comes about 2 years after its US and UK launches.Apple Pay in Ireland is currently available for customers of KBC Bank and Ulster Bank and there is no charge per transaction on the service. The security of the service comes from the fact that your actual card numbers are not stored on the device and are therefore not transferred when you make a payment.Instead, you're issued a Device Account Number that is encrypted and stored in your device. The only time your debit or credit card details are seen by Apple is when you're entering it into your phone. It's much like generating a new voucher for every transaction you make. Each one is for the specific transaction you make and even if it is intercepted, the token cannot be traced back to the buyer
