Port Everglades and its cruise line partners, in collaboration with the US Customs and Border Protection and Vancouver Airport Authority, have unveiled two BorderXpress Automated Passport Control (APC) kiosks at the Port Everglades terminal in Florida. This three-month pilot programme aims to increase cruise passenger processing rates into the US through the US Customs and Border Protection area following a cruise. "Port Everglades is excited to be the first US cruise port to implement the BorderXpress APC technology and think about new ways to process passengers gaining reentry into the US, without compromising safety and security," says Port Everglades deputy port director Glenn Wiltshire. "We have high hopes for the technology during the summer months and are evaluating the efficiency, staff time and costs involved with the pilot programme."Travellers using BorderXpress can proceed directly to a self-service kiosk in the United States Customs and Border Protection processing area at Port Everglades, follow the on-screen instructions to scan their passport and answer customs declaration questions, then receive a receipt confirming their information and continue to a US Customs officer to finalise processing."From airports to ports, our goal is to improve the travel experience," says Craig Richmond, president & CEO, Vancouver Airport Authority. "By introducing BorderXpress at Port Everglades, YVR continues to redefine the way passengers view the border reentry process, making it as smooth and hassle free as possible." According to the partners, BorderXpress kiosks help US Customs officers process up to four times more passengers than through traditional clearance. Eligible passengers for BorderXpress include US and Canadian passport holders and US Permanent Residents. This service is available without pre-registration and at no cost to the user.
