Afghanistan's president has said that a biometric system can be used to verify the country's troop numbers.Afghan President Ashraf Ghani wants to verify every member of the the Afghan National Defense and Security Force (ANDSF).The plan comes nearly two months after the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction (SIGAR) reported that Washington and Kabul have no idea how many ANDSF members “actually exist.”During a joint press conference on Tuesday with US Secretary of Defense Ash Carter, Afghan President Ashraf Ghani was asked what he will do to guarantee that international funding provided to Afghanistan will not go to waste.”Every soldier and every police officer – every police man and woman will be verifiedߪ based on the biometrics,” he responded. “We will be sure that yes, they existߪ [and that] they can serve at the highest level of the Afghanistan national defense security forces.”The pledge comes after the country's Ministry of Defense of Afghanistan (MoD) conducted an investigation into Taliban claims that they have accessed to the sophisticated biometric system.According to a statement by MoD, the commission rejected the Taliban claims as baseless after concluding their investigation, saying the enemies of the country are exaggerating regarding the access to the system.During the post-conflict US administration of the country, its military launched an iris-based biometric census of villagers and militants.
