He is also chairman and president of the International Biometrics & Identification Association2016 has been another year of dramatic growth in our industry which has evolved from 'biometric solutions' to 'identity solutions' across a number of sectors.The consumer adoption of biometrics spurred previously by Apple has now expanded to several cell phone providers offering effective identity solutions for security to their users.The growth in the commercial sector with identity solutions in financial services, healthcare and enterprise verticals is real and expanding.With the Trump presidency in US and increasing number of terrorist attacks in Europe, tighter border control to deal with immigration issues looms large in 2017.With Oberthur and Gemalto imminent acquisitions of Morphos and 3M-Cogent respectively, the development of multimodal authentication solutions combining card and biometric technologies will be accelerated.From a technology perspective, behavioral biometrics enabling continuous authentication solutions has made significant progress this year thanks to deep learning algorithms and will become more main stream in 2017.A major development challenge for our industry is to develop identity solutions to thwart cyber attacks at government, company and personal levels.Our industry needs to provide effective liveness detection capability to ensure continued adoption across mobile and unsupervised applications.More 2016 Year in Review Comments will be published in the coming days
