X Infotech is proud to announce that it has been awarded the contract for the “Remote biometrics capture for verification solutions” project by the IT and Development Centre of the Ministry of the Interior of Estonia (SMIT).
The project will deliver an advanced mobile application for remote biometric data capture and verification, enabling users – starting with those applying for eResidency – to securely submit their facial and fingerprint biometrics and perform document authenticity checks directly from their smartphones.
A key innovation of this project is the ability to capture fingerprints using only the mobile phone’s camera, eliminating the need for additional hardware or external biometric scanners. This sets a new benchmark for remote identity verification and digital onboarding.
“This project represents a new generation of biometric solutions, one where advanced algorithms and mobile technology redefine how users can securely prove their identity from anywhere in the world,” said Einars Leps, Sales Director at X Infotech. “We are proud that Estonia, a global leader in digital innovation, has chosen X Infotech to deliver such a forward-thinking solution.”
The tender was conducted as a three-stage competitive dialogue, including the development and demonstration of a functional prototype. X Infotech’s experience and competence, innovative approach, and strong background in secure identity solutions were decisive factors in its selection as the winning bidder.
This project also marks a significant milestone in X Infotech’s business journey, as it will be the first Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) solution in the company’s portfolio. By transitioning from traditional system deployments to a cloud-based SaaS model, X Infotech is expanding its technological capabilities and aligning with modern delivery models for scalable, secure, and continuously updated services.
“This award not only strengthens our position as a trusted provider of national-level identity solutions, but also marks the beginning of a new chapter in X Infotech’s business development as we introduce SaaS into our portfolio,” added Einars Leps, Sales Director. “It represents a significant step forward in our long-term strategy for digital transformation and sustainable innovation.”
The contract duration is 60 months, covering the design, development, and support of the mobile application. The project will enhance Estonia’s internationally recognised digital identity ecosystem, offering citizens and e-residents a new, secure, and fully mobile way to submit and verify biometric data remotely.
