Electronic ID card issuance, verification and management firm X INFOTECH has successfully implemented a Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) project for Uruguay's new eID card in collaboration with security solutions company Opteryx. The project – which was implemented under the auspices of the Uruguay eID solution provided by Gemalto – provides highly secure PKI infrastructure development for 1,000,000 electronic identity cards to be issued in 20 sites across the country. The eID card, provided by Gemalto, is a hybrid smart card that has contact and contactless chips. The contactless chip is compliant with ICAO standards to use the electronic ID card as a travel document in South America's leading trading bloc, Mercosur, while the contact chip includes the features for authentication, electronic signature and MatchOnCard verification allowing to use the card for strong identification and e-services.The highly secure components of the PKI solution delivered by the X INFOTECH MultiPerso Document Signer () and MultiPerso Country Signing Certification Authority (CSCA) allow the government of Uruguay to build reliable Public key infrastructure for digital signing of sensitive biometric data of cardholders in compliance with ICAO recommendations.MultiPerso Document Signer is a web-service based component that provides easy management of DS certificates and signature generation for each eID card while offering smooth integration with Gemalto Coesys Issuance solution. MultiPerso CSCA enables generation and issuance of root DS certificates in order to check their genuineness.Under the management of Opteryx and its local partner in Uruguay, Macroseguridad, the PKI solution integration and implementation was successfully completed in three weeks, which is a very short period of time for such a complex project. The team of experienced X INFOTECH employees provided technical support during the preparation and go-live phase. The work continues, though, with X INFOTECH providing software maintenance support, and Opteryx providing on-the-ground maintenance and training for the ICAO PKI solution for years to come."X INFOTECH`s solution aims to increase the overall security of identity document through enhanced protection of the sensitive information such as biometric person data stored on the chip," says Michael Griffin of Opteryx. "This is our first partnership project with X INFOTECH. We are very pleased with the results and the approach of how X INFOTECH builds partner relations. After all, I believe it is a new beginning of a long-term cooperation.""Our MultiPerso PKI solution delivers unsurpassed security and a verification infrastructure for eID cards enabling the Uruguayan Government to ensure a high level of safety and protection for every citizen. We provide flexibility as well as the ultimate in functionality to respond to the challenge of secure travel document issuance," says Sergey Yeliseyev, Business Development Director of X INFOTECH, "The project has been successfully implemented based on the close cooperation between our companies and we are looking forward to working with Opteryx on new projects in Latin American and other regions."
