The US Government Publishing Office (GPO) says it has achieved a milestone in the production of secure border credentials. GPO employees have produced five million Trusted Traveler Program (TTP) cards for the Department of Homeland Security's (DHS) US Customs and Border Protection (CBP). During this process, GPO and CBP have successfully manufactured these secure credentials for members of the various TTP programs without a single compromise in security nor a fruitful counterfeit attempt. The GPO says: "With a higher and more consistent read rate than any other Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) enabled travel document, GPO and CBP have not only created a more secure form of identification, but a more efficient product generating benefits for both the traveller and officer alike. GPO has been producing the cards since 2008 at the agency's ISO 9001 certified secure production facilities in Washington, DC and Mississippi. GPO is responsible for designing, printing, personalising and mailing the cards."CBP's Trusted Traveler Program provides expedited entry process for pre-approved, low-risk travellers upon arrival in the US. Trusted Traveler Programs cards, including NEXUS, SENTRI, FAST and Global Entry, are approved travel documents under the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative.
