A British police project that aims to develop a faster response to crimes using forensics and biometrics has been boosted by a £6 million grant from the Police Transformation Fund.Dorset Police, whose Chief Constable Debbie Simpson is leading the programme, will be granted the money over the next two years, with the overall aim of reducing the time taken to provide DNA results to forces for investigations, reports the Police Oracle.”This will now enable us to explore how we can modernise police use of forensics and biometrics nationally, and to identify and expand what already works well across the country”, she told the magazine.”In particular, we want to pilot the concept of 'Rapid Forensics and Digital Analysis' kiosks located in forces”,she said.West Yorkshire Police and the Metropolitan Police will host the initial pilot sites for the new approach, with other forces being invited to join if it proves successful.
