The UK Government Digital Service has said biometrics could play a bigger role in public services.Writing in its newly published “Technology innovation in government” survey, the GDS said biometrics is one of its “Emerging technologies used to innovate”.It said the GDS may consider creating a centre of Excellence focusing on biometrics, along with AI and distributed ledger tech.However, the GDS also pointed out the importance of privacy.”Data privacy and data security continue to be of utmost importance when designing government services, including those that use new technologies, for example biometric authentication.”
