Ugandan officials have said the country will need to raise at least Shs60,212,776,512 ($16mn) for its ePassport project.The National Citizenship and Immigration Control detailed the cost in a supplementary request that was tabled by State Minister for Planning, David Bahati and referred to the Parliamentary Budget Committee for consideration, reported PML.Uganda's implementation of the Electronic passport follows the 17thOrdinary Summit of the East African Community Heads of State held in March 2016, that saw the launch the new EAC e-Passport with the nation leaders agreeing to the commencement of the issuance of the New international EAC e-Passport to take effect on 1st January 2019.The development saw Government announce changes in prices for the electronic passports in a bid the Internal Affairs Ministry argued is intended to generate Non Tax Revenue with the Ordinary Passport 48 Pages to go for Shs250,000, Ordinary Passport 64 Pages Shs300,000, Official/Service Passport 64 Pages Shs 400,000 and the 64paged Diplomatic Passport are set to cost Shs500,000.Yet still, those in urgent need of passports will have to part with Shs150,000 as Passport Express Services and Courier fee for Diaspora Passport applications will cost Shs300,000 while the Diaspora Ordinary Passport of 64 Pages is Shs350,000.
