TSA PreCheck Touchless Identity Solution is undergoing field testing across some U.S. airports in partnership with Delta and United Airlines.
With no IDs, barcodes, waiting times, or devices, passengers opt-in to a more seamless, comfortable journey at TSA’s participating airports. Travellers opt-in with “informed consent” knowing their data is safeguarded by airlines in this scheme.
It is reserved for DHS Trusted Travelers on the PreCheck or Global Entry programmes who opt in prior or upon check-in.
Travellers are lucky to have the assurance of this great scheme from Jason Lim, TSA/DHS Identity Management Capability Manager. Recapping the processes of PreCheck, he says the Transporation Security Administration “pre-stage the photos of the opt-in passengers only for that airport and on that day to enable touchless facial identification at the bag drop, checkpoint, and even boarding”.
The freedom to opt-in/out is with the world traveller.
“As you can see on the signage at TSA airports, even after you have opted-in, you can always change your mind and opt-out at the point of identification” – Jason Lim.
He said the results were so far impressive to indicate the scheme works on several fronts: passenger and global security, enabling a seamless experience, self-sovereign data ownership and accurate detection of fraud or criminality crossing the border.
Privacy and security is far better since TSA are “verifying against a system of record data (usually your passport) without relying on a presented ID”.
“We are especially excited about gains in operational efficiency”
The TSA is looking to expand airlines and locations in the alliance in the near future. More information can be found here: https://lnkd.in/eqnMbNPM
