Taiwan touch panel maker TPK is expecting rapid growth in the market for fingerprint scanners embedded in touchscreens.TPK expects orders for products with fingerprint recognition capabilities from China-based handset vendors such as Coolpad and ZTE during 2015, reports DigiTimes.”From 2015 onwards for two years, the technology is expected to have a CAGR of 80% driven largely by demand from China vendors,” the newspaper quoted TPK as saying.Pricing will be a major factor for the technology's acceptance into the Chinese market, however, “as local vendors are currently pushing low-priced solutions in order to maintain market share”.In September, China's Goodix announced that it had developed the “world's first” fingerprint sensor and touch panel integrated solution in cooperation with TPK.The firms said the most challenging part of developing the Invisible Fingerprint Sensor, in comparison to add-on fingerprint sensor module, were “the stringent requirements on integrated circuit design which must be capable of handling weaker sensing signal, and performing better image and algorithm processing”.
