Taiwan officials have said that the country's eID card will be ready for issuance by July 2021.Interior Minister Hsu Kuo-yung told a legislative briefing on October 5 that trial issurance however start in January for specific regions, reported Taiwan News.New Taipei, Penghu County, and Hsinchu City have been chosen for these trials.The minister said 'hackathon' events will be held to identify any software loopholes existing in the new IDs – with rewards offered.Cards will be manufactured by the Central Engraving and Printing Plant at a secured venue under strict supervision, while the chips will be produced by the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), wrote state news agency CNA.The new card has anti-counterfeit features that address security concerns, added Hsu.
