Singaporean officials have confirmed the country will launch biometric immigration this year.The Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) will implement the BioScreen-Multi Modal Biometrics System later this year for a “more efficient and secure” immigration clearance process.Second Minister for Home Affairs Josephine Teo confirmed the plans in parliament this week, reported Channel News Asia.The ICA will progressively deploy a new screening system which uses three biometric identifiers – fingerprints, facial and iris – to complement fingerprint matching for immigration clearance. ICA said this is more accurate and is useful for travellers with deteriorated fingerprints due to ageing, scarring or genetics.
