The Rhode Island Division of Motor Vehicles says the state will not share driver's licence photos with the FBI.The denial follows a request sent by American Civil Liberties Union of Rhode Island Executive Director Steven Brown to DMV Administrator Walter Craddock in June asking the state not to participate in the facial recognition program. The letter questioned whether it was constitutional.Officials said Thursday it has no future plans to discuss sharing the photos for use in the federal agency's facial recognition system. The ACLU had based its concerns on a federal report released in May that listed Rhode Island among 18 states currently negotiating with the FBI to join the program.
