The OpenWallet Foundation, an open-source initiative focused on advancing digital wallets and credentials, is excited to announce Mastercard as its newest premier member. Mastercard’s involvement reinforces OWF’s mission to foster interoperability, innovation, and openness across the digital wallet landscape.
Hosted by Linux Foundation Europe, OWF provides a collaborative, vendor-neutral platform where companies, non-profits, and public sector organizations can unite to develop open-source software solutions for interoperable digital wallets. Mastercard joins a growing community of stakeholders committed to creating secure, inclusive, and privacy-respecting wallet solutions for users worldwide.
“We are thrilled to welcome Mastercard, a global leader in payment technology and innovation, to the OpenWallet Foundation,” said Daniel Goldscheider, Founder and Executive Director of OWF. “Their involvement underscores the shared vision we have for building a more interoperable and open wallet infrastructure.”
With a long history of advocating for innovation and collaboration within the payments ecosystem, Mastercard brings valuable expertise to OWF’s initiatives. Their participation will help reduce fragmentation, enhance interoperability, and accelerate the adoption of open standards in the wallet space.
“We’re excited to leverage our deep experience in digital identity to help drive OWF’s mission forward,” said Dennis Gamiello, Executive Vice President of Identity at Mastercard. “Our collaboration will fuel new solutions that ensure secure and seamless digital interactions, while promoting greater interoperability across platforms.”
This announcement further underscores OWF’s growing momentum as a cross-industry initiative that brings together public and private sector leaders to develop foundational technologies for the future of digital wallets. As digital identity and payment systems continue to evolve, the need for open-source collaboration has never been more critical.
“I am excited to see OWF’s continued growth with the addition of Mastercard,” said Gabriele Columbro, General Manager of Linux Foundation Europe. “Mastercard’s decision to join OWF is a strong indication that open collaboration is essential to overcoming the challenges of digital trust and wallet interoperability.”
With Mastercard now part of the OWF ecosystem, the Foundation is more equipped than ever to lead the charge in building privacy-first, user-centric digital wallet infrastructure at scale.
