The new Italian national eID card, launched in major cities in 2016, is now being rolled out to the rest of the country.According to a blog post by Gemalto, 7,183 municipalities have been issuing the new document as of 27 August 2018 and by the end of 2018, all 7,982 municipalities should be able to issue the new Italian national eID card.It adds that 4,7m new ID cards have been delivered so far.According to La Stampa (24/08/2017), the card can be obtained in 5 to 6 days.Italy is one of the 60+ countries to invest in a national eID card as revealed in Gemalto's May dossier National IDs: 2016 facts and trends.
