Truliant Federal Credit Union has become the latest US financial institution to deploy fingerprint and eyeprint authentication on its mobile banking app.The credit union has added Apple's Touch ID fingerprint system and EyeVerify's EyePrint ID eye-scan sign-in to its Tru2Go mobile app.The move follows similar deployments by Mountain America Credit Union, Allegacy Federal Credit Union and Community America. In January, Kansas-based eye-based mobile biometric authentication firm EyeVerify has announced that its Eyeprint ID solution has been named FIDO Certified by the FIDO (Fast IDentity Online) Alliance, and that it is now in use by 2 million customers. Eyeprint ID transforms a selfie into a digital key, using existing smart device cameras to image and pattern match the visible blood vessels and other micro features in and around the eye. Rob Morgan, vice president of emerging technologies for the American Bankers Association, based in Washington, D.C., told Journal Now that biometric systems are part of a broader trend in the financial industry.”Banks are always looking for ways to make transactions and authentication more secure and convenient,” Morgan said, “and I think we're at a point where there are some really cool new technologies that are making both possible.”Truliant said that its new features are intended to give its members a more secure and seamless banking experience.”As more Truliant members embrace digital technologies for simplifying daily tasks, we continue to develop our mobile banking Tru2Go app to provide a faster and more convenient online experience that fits their schedule, not just our hours of operation,” said Karen DeSalvo, chief marketing officer for Truliant.
