A survey into consumer thoughts on biometrics has thrown up mixed results, with just 17% agreeing that biometric authentication methods were better than current password entry procedures, but only 23% seeing the technology as a risk.The survey from email provider GMX, who commissioned the study from YouGov, surveyed 2025 people in Great Britain during July. It also found that 42% of people said they did not want companies to collect, save or use their personal data for logging on to services.Other key findings included:I worry that hackers could overcome biometric authentication methods to access online accounts – 31% (69% were not worried);I do not think the technology is fully developed to support these biometric authentication methods – 33%;I worry that third parties could access my biometric data if I lost my device – 33%.
