Global software giant Microsoft has revealed plans to support fingerprint scanners with the Anniversary Update for Windows 10 Mobile this year.Speaking at its WinHEC conference last week, Sam Chang said fingerprint support on mobile will be launched by Summer 2016.He added that the fingerprint drivers for desktop versions of Hello, Microsoft's biometric security platform, can be recompiled to work on mobile-ready processors. The firm noted that although Windows phone OEMs are already been using fingerprint scanners from Synaptics and Fingerprint Cards, other scanners could need more work to integrate into Windows Hello.”Some IHVs [independent hardware vendors] already have experience in this area (ex. FPC, Synaptics) other's don't and so those IHVs will need to work closely with QC [Quality Control] and the ODM [original design manufacturer] to understand how to integrate their driver into a mobile BSP [board support package] for Windows Phone.”Chang said that a touch sensor was recommended, due to a “better user experience”.Last year, the firm included an iris scanner on the Lumia 950 and 950 XL smartphone models.
