LG Innotek has unveiled an all-in-one module that doubles as both an iris scanner and a front-facing camera. The South Korean tech firm's all-in-one iris scanning module uses a filter changing mechanism to switch between the two functions in one single module. The function resembles a module developed by Crucialtec earlier this year.In August, Planet Biometrics reported how CrucialTec has developed a camera module for a smartphone that is also able to authenticate a user's iris. The concept involves an iris reader that operates in junction with Smartphone camera through a 'filter changing' method, reports ETNews.A visible ray filter and infrared ray filter are installed inside the module and they are automatically switched depending on filming mode, staff told the website.CrucialTec said a smartphone manufacturer can reduce production cost by third through the method and added that this module will use less space.Samsung deployed iris recognition technology on its Galaxy Note 7, but using a module devoted to the biometric security method.
