Enhanced Passenger Processing is now live at JFK’s Terminal 8. It has been deployed through a collaboration between American Airlines and U.S. Customs and Border Protection, expediting airport security procedures much faster, and entirely contactless. Guests are offered the ability to use their face at every touchpoint to verify their identity on the day of travel. The cutting-edge biometric screening system is currently only available to U.S. citizens, however, across the world biometric border strategies are reimagining the future of travel security and ensuring speedier checks.
The EPP instantly compares a live image of the passenger presented at biometric e-gates to their passport photo. Much of the customs and identity verification process is completed in record time before reaching a CBP officer, which eases congestion in busy international terminals. Over 20 years, the Custom and Border’s Protection has been a frontrunner of embracing biometric technology which centres the importance of collecting essential identity data from passengers from safe travel. All data has to be examined but over time the agency has just modernised its approach to allow technology to take the pressure for processing data from a face or physical document.
CBP official Diane J. Sabatino has highlighted the agency’s push towards mobile and biometric solutions that balance enhanced security with smoother passenger flows, sensing early risk assessments and supporting CBP’s overarching border management.
EPP does not require travelers to pre-enroll and complies with all federal security and privacy standards. It also supports interoperability with current airport infrastructure and systems.
JFK joins several other major U.S. airports including, Orlando, Dallas Fort Worth, Denver, and and Seattle-Tacoma, that have adopted the system.
