South Carolina-based Integrated Biometrics has launched the Columbo Desktop FAP PIV 30 Scanner, saying it has applications in military, law enforcement, airport security, finance and healthcare “The Columbo Desktop has the largest area platen for a single finger scanner that the FBI recognizes,” said Steve Thies, Integrated Biometrics CEO, adding, “This particular size scanner is rare in the marketplace and is designed to perform at the highest level with tablets, smartphones and PCs.”According to the National Institute of Standards & Technology IR 7950 report published in March 2014, testing done in collaboration with the FBI showed that FAP 30 scanners like the Columbo Desktop outperformed other single finger scanners sizes tested (FAP 10 and FAP 20) in both false negative and false positive performance, says IB.”Early sales are already underway with customers looking to use the Columbo Desktop for enrollment and verification activities for banking, law enforcement, and other commercial and government uses worldwide,” Thies explained.
